Database Administration and Back up
Database Administrator Services: Depending on the requirement, DBA Services will cover the following areas:
Systems DBA : Will focus on the physical aspects of database administration such as DBMS installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, backups, restores, refreshes, performance optimization, and maintenance and disaster recovery.
Development DBAs : Will focus on the logical and development aspects of database administration such as data model design and maintenance, DDL (data definition language) generation, SQL writing and tuning, coding stored procedures, collaborating with developers to help choose the most appropriate DBMS feature/functionality and other pre-production activities.
Application DBAs : Will straddle the fence between the DBMS and the application software and are responsible for ensuring that the application is fully optimized for the database and vice versa. They usually manage all the application components that interact with the database and carry out activities such as application installation and patching, application upgrades, database cloning, building and running data cleanup routines, data load process management, etc.
Back up Strategy/Implementation/Monitoring: Backup refers to making copies of data so that these additional copies may be used to restore the original after a data loss event. These additional copies are typically called "backups." Backups are useful primarily for two purposes. The first is to restore a computer to an operational state following a disaster (called Disaster Recovery). The second is to restore small numbers of files after they have been accidentally deleted or corrupted. Backups are typically that last line of defense against data loss, and consequently the least granular and the least convenient to use.
Periodic Recovery Testing: To ensure that the organization’s mission critical data is safe at all times is essential. Since data builds continuously, there is need to ensure a mechanism that in case of any disaster, data recovery happens to an agreed and acceptable point. Hence, two aspects: data back up strategy as well as ensuring that the backed up data is usable need to be addressed. Atecsoft has processes to ensure that both these aspects get established to suit organizational requirements.
